If you are one of the many who owns an Instant Pot or any other version of the pressure cooker, then you have probably asked the question, “How do I convert a recipe into an Instant Pot Recipe?” If you happen to be one of the few who has no idea what an Instant Pot is, don’t worry; we’ll cover that too.

An Instant Pot is a pressure cooker that is capable of various recipes and cooking methods. In fact, it doubles as a rick cooker, slow cooker, steamer, yogurt maker, and warmer, sauter, and conveniently allows most to prep meals 70% faster than other cooking methods. That includes elaborate meals in less than an hour. Most pressure cookers, including the Instant Pot, are super-safe as they have sensors to detect whether a lid is locked or not and self-regulate internal pressure and temperature. Best of all, they are extremely easy to clean.

But now on to the important question at hand, how do we convert our favorite recipes into Instant pot recipes? Let us take a look at some well-known tips that will set you up for success.

Adapt Recipes, So They Fit In Your Instant Pot

When you are converting your recipes, it is more than just cooking time and temperatures. It would help if you considered how full your pressure cooker would get. If you are using food items that expand, such as pasta or rice, you will need to edit the recipe just a tad to prevent overfilling. A pressure cooker should never be more than ⅔ full for proper cooking.

Do Not Put Dairy In The Instant Pot When Pressurizing

When you cook dairy ingredients in a pressure cooker, it is very different from cooking them in the over microwave, stove, or even in a slow cooker. If a recipe calls for dairy ingredients, make sure to add them once finished cooking and depressurized your pressure cooker. The extreme heat and pressure can cause dairy ingredients to scorch or turn clumpy.

Test Out Slow Cooker Recipes For Practice Converting

If you happen to be starting in converting your old recipes into Instant Pot recipes, start slow by using recipes that cook with liquid ingredients. Not all recipes will be suitable for the Instant Pot or any pressure cooker. When attempting to convert recipes to Instant Pot cook times, make sure that the recipe can cook in a liquid of some sort. If there is not enough liquid, it will not pressurize. When trying to cook items that do not use liquid, first check to see if there is a slow cooker version of the recipe and start converting it to an Instant Pot recipe.

Converting your favorite foods to be cooked an Instant Pot can be difficult because of having to account for ingredients, cook times, and other factors. Still, tons of blogs offer already converted recipes or cook time cheat sheets for you to reference.
