Internet Access and Broadband

0

The Internet is the most powerful tool in today’s world. It is a collection of various services and resources.  Some of the most important uses of internet are in the field of communication, business, research, education, banking, entertainment, news, shopping, making bookings and so on. In short, the internet is a blessing.

Internet access is sold by internet providers. It is provided using different broadband technologies like telephone wires, cable, and satellite, wireless or mobile connections. If you want to access the internet, you’ll need an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a router to connect to the ISP.

National Broadband Network (NBN)

The Australian Government has rolled out a high-speed broadband network called National Broadband Network or NBN. NBN provides different speed tiers which are designed keeping in mind the need of internet users, be it browsing or gaming.  While picking an NBN plan everyone wants a fast service at an affordable price.

Before selecting any NBN plan you need to know about the speed tiers and evening or peak time speeds. There are four widely available speed tiers from which you can choose. Each has something different and is suited to different kinds of households.

The plans range from Basic plan, Standard speed, Standard Plus and Premium Speed.  All these plans get affected by peak time. Peak time is the time when lots of people use the internet at the same time. If you browse or download during peak times there are chances that your connection will be slower.

Different Types of NBN Connections

Depending on your location the NBN will provide you service in different ways.  The following are some common ways.

Fiber to the Premises: This is where NBN runs fiber optic cable till your house and installs a new connection box.

Fiber to the Node: Here, NBN runs fiber optic cable to a node on the street, someplace near your house. From the node, the existing phone lines connect your house to the NBN.

Fiber to the Building: When you stay in a high-rise apartment, NBN runs fiber optic cable in to a central hub connecting all individual apartments using copper telephone lines already installed in the building.

Fixed Wireless: NBN uses air waves to connect your house to the NBN. They have large antennas pointing towards your house and small antennas near your house.

Choosing the right NBN Plan

NBN provides broadband access to retail service providers. These retails providers sell internet access plans to end users, both residential and business consumers. Searching through numerous NBN providers can seem like a difficult task. After wading through confusing contract details, endless package choices and tons of fine print, you can still end up making a wrong choice.
