According to the Annual Investment Review, Scotland is now among the most active European countries for start-up risk capital. Scottish Enterprise has helped to provide £100million of risk capital for start up and growing businesses claims the report. £68m of this funding came from private investment and business angels. Most of the money was invested in sectors such as digital, energy and life sciences.
Scotland appears to be bucking the trend of other nations which has seen levels of early stage risk capital provision decline in recent years. Enterprise Minister Jim Mather said: “Scotland now has one of the most active early stage risk capital markets in Europe – a market which experienced growth over the last two years.”
